In this course, you will get an introduction to ecological restoration work with specific training on outdoor workplace safety protocols, chemical safety, and wearing personal equipment (PPE). You’ll also learn how to use a range of outdoor machines and equipment and get involved in native seed collection.

Get started on your career as a horticulturalist! Get the practical skills to assist with tasks such as maintaining and restoring natural and cultural places, or farmland.

Sometimes we like to do it old-school! If you’re better on the tools than on a computer – we’ve got your back! At FTA, we’re determined to ensure you learn how you learn best.

To achieve this qualification, you must demonstrate competency in 3 core units and 3 elective units from the options below.

Core Units (3)

  • AHCECR101        Support ecological restoration
  • AHCWHS101      Work safely
  • AHCWRK101      Maintain the workplace

Suggested Elective Units (3)

  • AHCCHM101 Follow basic chemical safety rules
  • AHCECR102 Support native seed collection
  • AHCMOM101 Assist with routine maintenance of machinery and equipment
  • AHCNSY102 Support nursery work
  • AHCWRK212 Work effectively in the industry  

Career opportunities after studying the AHC21020- Certificate II in Conservation and Ecosystem Management  include:

The course duration will vary depending on your experience, skills and chosen study mode. As a guide:

  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): 3-6 months- this term may be extended by Funding Criteria, amount of RPL awarded and subsequent Gap Training required  – eligibility criteria apply.
  • Fee for Service: 3-12 months subject to the amount of RPL awarded and subsequent Gap Training required

Your skills will be assessed through a mix of practical and theory tasks. Which is essentially showing us what you’ve learnt and how you do it.

Theory will be assessed via Workbook. Practical Assessment will be conducted at your place of work or worksite with fit for purpose facilities and equipment which are to be made available to your FTA trainer & Assessor for training and assessment purposes.
