What you’ll learn

This resource and infrastructure course is an entry-level qualification that aims to build your skill, knowledge and understanding of work practices in the Resource and Infrastructure sectors.

Learn alongside industry experts, on campus. With a mix of practical tasks and theory you’ll gain the skills, experience and knowledge for a competitive edge in the industry.

Onsite Training

We like to think this is a bit of a game-changer! Learn onsite, while you work. This means less time off the tools and more time focused on practical skills.

Workbook

Sometimes we like to do it old-school! If you’re better on the tools than on a computer – we’ve got your back! At FTA, we’re determined to ensure you learn how you learn best.

To achieve this qualification, you must demonstrate competency in all 4 core and 5 elective units. Refer below for the core units of competency and a sample of suggested electives:

Core Units (4)

  • RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIENV201E Identify and assess environmental and heritage concerns
  • RIIRIS201E Conduct local risk control
  • RIIWHS201E Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures

Suggested Elective Units (5)

  • RIICCM203D Read and interpret plans and job specification
  • RIICCM201E Carry out measurements and calculations
  • RIISAM203E Use hand and power tools
  • RIIBEF201E Plan and organise work
  • RIISAM201E Handle resources and infrastructure materials and safely dispose of nontoxic material
  • Pathway into civil construction and wider resrouces sectors.

The course duration will vary depending on your experience, skills and chosen study mode. As a guide:

  • Fee for service: 3-6 months subject to the amount of RPL awarded and subsequent Gap Training required
  • Workshop: Are usually delivered over a 10 to 12 weeks, and the maximum duration of training is 6 months.

Your skills will be assessed through a mix of practical and theory tasks. Which is essentially showing us what you’ve learnt and how you do it.

Theory will be assessed via Workbook. Practical Assessment will be conducted at your place of work or worksite with fit for purpose facilities and equipment which are to be made available to your FTA trainer & Assessor for training and assessment purposes.
