The CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) is aimed at constructions high-flyers, ready to take the next step in your career, as a supervisor, or in your business, by expanding the scope of your work.

In this Diploma level course, you will learn the fundamentals of working on low and medium-rise construction sites.  You will gain knowledge in building surveying, job supervision, and project and safety management.  This course will also cover the necessary skills and knowledge for you to confidently assess and plan projects, undertake project costing, contract administration and resource management duties.

This CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) qualification expands on your skills, knowledge and experience to ensure you feel competent and feel confident in supervisory construction roles. It also offers a pathway to the QBCC Builders Medium Rise Licence and is aimed at anyone looking to work on residential and commercial projects.

Ways to study

Recognition of Prior Learning

Your experience adds up and you can use this to fast-track your qualification.  If you’ve got a tonne of industry experience this can be used to gain part or all of your qual.

  • CPCCBC5004 – Supervise and apply quality standards to the selection of building and construction materials

This qualification meets one of the requirements for you to obtain a licence with your states regulatory body. Please consult with your local authority to ensure you are eligible and meet other criteria prior to commencing studies with us.

Builder – medium rise licence

Scope of Work

  1. Building work on a class 1 or class 10 building
  2. Building work to a maximum of 3 storeys, but not including Type A construction on classes 4 to 9 buildings
  3. Building work that consists of non-structural work on a building, regardless of—
    • the class of the building; or
    • the gross floor area of the building
  4. Prepare plans and specifications if the plans and specifications are:
    • for the licensee’s personal use, or
    • for use in building work to be performed by the licensee personally.

Qualifications Required for Contractor and nominee Licences

Any one of the following:

  1. Successful completion of CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)
  2. Successful completion of a course the authority considers is at least equivalent to the course mentioned above;
  3. A recognition certificate as a builder qualified to carry out the scope of work for the class;
  4.  A qualification or statement of attainment of required competency for the class of licence.

Qualifications Required for Site supervisor Licence

Any one of the following—

  1. The technical qualifications stated for Builder—medium rise;

Successful completion of the following units of competency—

  • CPCCBC5001 Apply building codes and standards to the construction process for Type B construction projects
  • CPCCBC5004 Supervise and apply quality standards to the selection of building and construction materials CPCCBC5005 Select and manage building and construction contractors
  • CPCCBC5006 Apply site surveys and set-out procedures to building projects up to three storeys
  • CPCCBC5018 Apply structural principles to the construction of buildings up to three storeys
  • CPCCBC5009 Identify services layout and connection methods for Type B and C constructions
  • CPCCBC5010 Manage construction work

 

2. Successful completion of a course or units of competency of a course the authority considers is at least equivalent to the units of competency mentioned above.

The course duration will vary depending on your experience, skills and chosen study mode. As a guide:

  • Standard duration is between 12-24 months
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): 3-6 months- this term may be extended by Funding Criteria, amount of RPL awarded and subsequent Gap Training required  – eligibility criteria apply
  • CSQ
    • Program completion date is 20 September 2022 (for the Higher Level Skills General Program 2020/21 Contract)
    • Program completion date is 20 September 2022(for the Apprentice Advance+ Higher Level Skills Program 2020/21 Contract)
    • Program completion date is 20 September 2022 (for the Major Projects program 2020/21 Contract).
  • Fee for service: 3-12 months subject to the amount of RPL awarded and subsequent Gap Training required

Your skills will be assessed through a mix of practical and theory tasks. Which is essentially showing us what you’ve learnt and how you do it.

Theory and Practical Assessment will be assessed Online. Practical Assessment will be conducted online through instructions and workplace activities conducted in your place of work. You will then make these completed tasks available to your trainer via the online learning platform to assess.
